In a single pass, the machine scores, crushes, and separates a whole pomegranate into three streams that exit through two outlets:

• Peel and white membrane — discharged separately for composting, animal feed, or pomegranate peel polyphenol (punicalagin) extraction
• Free juice released during crushing — collected and pumped to the next process via a screw pump

Manual hand-peeling takes one worker 8 to 12 minutes to break and clean a single pomegranate, and exposes the operator to red staining and tannin-rich membrane.

Advantages of Commercial Pomegranate Peeling Machine

• Two-stage crushing for high aril integrity. SUS304 stainless steel top rollers + non-toxic high-elasticity rubber bottom rollers open the fruit without bursting the arils.
• Variable-frequency separation. The separation drum is driven by a VFD (variable-frequency drive), so the operator can fine-tune the rotation speed to match the cultivar, fruit size, and maturity — which makes the same machine work for both fresh and slightly dried pomegranates.
• Full 304 stainless steel. Every part that touches the fruit is 304 stainless steel (except the reducer and the external transmission parts). This meets EU, US, and Middle East food-contact requirements and is easy to sanitize between batches.
• Clean separation — less bitterness. Because the peel and white membrane are discharged separately, very little tannin-rich material ends up in the aril stream. The juice extracted downstream has a noticeably cleaner, sweeter flavor profile compared with single-stage crushers that mix everything together.
• Custom screen hole for special cultivars. The 12–18 mm standard screen hole works for most pomegranate varieties. For very small arils (such as some Indian cultivars) or very large arils, the screen can be customized at the time of order.

Working Principle of Industrial Pomegranate Aril Extraction Machine

The pomegranate peeling machine uses a three-stage design that combines mechanical crushing, gentle separation, and aril screening. Each stage is tuned to minimize damage to the aril skin (which keeps the juice from leaking and prevents the bitter tannins in the white membrane from contaminating the product).

Stage 1 — Upper Crushing Device

Whole pomegranates enter the hopper by gravity. The first crushing rollers are made of SUS304 stainless steel with sharp cutting blades.

As the two rollers rotate against each other, they cut the whole pomegranate into several smaller pieces.

The roller gap is adjustable from 20 to 30 mm, so it can be tuned to the size of the cultivar being processed (for example, smaller Wonderful pomegranates vs. larger Mollar or Bhagwa pomegranates).

Pomegranates enter directly through the feed inlet and are crushed by the screw mechanism.

Stage 2 — Lower Crushing Device

After the first cut, the fruit pieces fall to the lower crushing rollers, which are made of non-toxic high-elasticity rubber. The rubber rollers are gentler on the aril skin and the white membrane, so the second cut opens the inner chambers without bursting the arils.

The roller gap is adjustable from 10 to 20 mm. The combination of stainless steel (top) + rubber (bottom) is the key to high aril integrity and clean separation.

Stage 3 — Variable-Frequency Separation Drum

After the two-stage crushing, the broken fruit — now a mixture of arils, free juice, peel flakes, and small pieces of white membrane — falls into the separation device, which combines a rotating separation shaft with a rotating drum (the rotating screen).

The drum rotates at a variable-frequency-controlled speed, so the operator can adjust the centrifugal force to match the fruit condition.

The drum is perforated with a 12 to 18 mm screen hole (special cultivars such as very small or very large arils can be ordered with a custom screen size).

The arils and free juice pass through the screen holes and fall into the aril collection outlet.

The peel flakes and white membrane are discharged from the rear of the machine as a separate waste stream.
