In June 2026, a Surinamese spice and seasoning producer in the Paramaribo region ordered one unit of our crushing screw juicer machine — the 0.5 T compact model — to extract juice from galangal (known locally as laos or djahé), a hard, fibrous rhizome that looks like ginger but is noticeably tougher.

Because the customer’s factory runs on Suriname’s two-phase 220V 60Hz grid, we configured the machine to deliver 4.4 kW at 220V (with a 3 kW / 380V option kept available for future re-deployment). See the full case below.

Client Background

Our client runs a small seasoning factory in the outskirts of Paramaribo. The company buys fresh galangal, ginger, turmeric, and lemongrass from local cooperatives and turns them into three product lines:

  • Concentrated galangal juice — sold in 5 L and 20 L food-service containers to restaurants and ready-meal producers across Suriname and neighboring Guyana
  • Javanese-style spice paste (“boemboe”) for the local Indonesian-Surinamese community and for export to the Netherlands
  • Dried galangal powder for retail packs in Caribbean supermarkets

Before this order, the customer was using a small two-roller press built for sugarcane. It could only handle about 80–100 kg of galangal per hour, and the operators had to stop every 20 minutes to clean fiber out of the rollers. The customer needed a purpose-built, fiber-friendly juicer that could keep up with a 500 kg/h target without constant downtime.

Core Requirements From the Surinamese Customer

After two email rounds and a WhatsApp video call with our sales manager, the customer confirmed the following must-haves for his galangal juicer:

  • Suriname grid compatibility — 220V / 60Hz / two-phase (phase-to-phase) power, which is the standard for commercial buildings in Suriname and across much of northern South America
  • Handle hard, fibrous rhizomes — the auger and screen must keep working even when the feedstock is galangal (harder and more fibrous than ginger), not just soft fruits
  • 500 kg/h capacity — enough to process one full batch of fresh galangal in a single morning shift
  • Compact, light footprint — the existing factory floor is only 120 m², and the machine must be moved between two production rooms during cleaning
  • High juice yield — at least 80%, because galangal is a relatively expensive raw material in Suriname
  • Food-grade contact parts — SUS304 stainless steel for the hopper, screws, and screen
  • Easy to clean between batches — removable parts so the line can switch from galangal to ginger to turmeric without cross-flavor carry-over

Our Solution: 0.5T Crushing Screw Juicer

Based on these requirements, our sales manager recommended the 0.5T compact crushing screw juicer — a smaller, fiber-focused version of our standard industrial screw juicer machine family. The “crushing” prefix refers to the pre-crushing screw at the feed end, which breaks down hard rhizomes before the main press screw takes over.

Why This Machine Is a Good Fit for Suriname

The 0.5T crushing screw juicer is one of the most popular models in our juicing family for South American and Caribbean customers, for three reasons.

  • Built for 220V 60Hz two-phase. South American grids (Suriname, Guyana, parts of Brazil, the Caribbean) commonly deliver 220V across two hot phases rather than 220V phase-to-neutral. We rewound the motor and fitted a two-phase-compatible starter so the machine plugs straight into the customer’s existing distribution board — no transformer, no re-wiring, no electrician visit.
  • Crushing + pressing in one frame. The pre-crushing auger at the hopper breaks galangal’s woody fibers into small chips before they reach the main press screw. This is what makes the difference compared with a standard single-screw juicer: the screen does not clog, the fiber does not wrap, and the yield stays above 80% even on hard rhizomes.
  • Compact and movable. At 110 kg net weight and 1030 × 380 × 1100 mm, the machine fits through a standard 900 mm door and can be wheeled between two production rooms with one operator. This matters for small Surinamese factories that do not have dedicated rooms for every product line.
  • Dual-voltage flexibility for the future. The same machine is built around a 3 kW @ 380V core. If the customer later adds a 380V three-phase line in the factory, the motor can be reconfigured without buying a new juicer — the spare 380V wiring is already inside the control box.

Order Execution & Delivery to Suriname

After the customer confirmed the configuration, we moved through the following steps.

  • Motor rewind & QC. The standard 3 kW 380V three-phase motor was rewound to 4.4 kW 220V 60Hz two-phase to match Suriname’s grid. Each machine then runs a 30-minute no-load test and a 15-minute loaded test with real galangal before packing.
  • Export packing. The unit was wrapped in moisture-proof film, foam-padded at the corners, and packed in a reinforced wooden crate sized for one unit per crate (1080 × 450 × 1250 mm, 125 kg).
  • Shipping documents. We prepared the commercial invoice, packing list, bill of lading, and a certificate of origin. A CE declaration of conformity was included for the European-export side of the customer’s business (the Netherlands).
  • Logistics. We directly send the machine to Yiwu, then the order was shipped to Paramaribo port via sea freight (transshipment through Rotterdam or Panama, depending on the sailing), then delivered by road to the customer’s factory. Total transit time was about 45 days door-to-door.

Feedback From the Surinamese Customer

Three weeks after installation, we followed up with the customer. Here is what he told us (lightly edited for clarity):

“We tried two different juicers before this one, and both choked on galangal within ten minutes.

The crushing screw is the difference — it chews through the rhizome and the screen stays clean. On our first full day we processed 4.2 tonnes of fresh galangal, which used to take us almost a week on the old press.

The yield is above 80% and the flavor of the juice is much stronger, so we can sell the concentrate at a premium to the Javanese restaurants in Paramaribo. Cleaning between galangal and turmeric batches takes about 10 minutes. We are very happy with the machine.”
